Kew Gardens (Royal Botanic Gardens)

I recently paid a visit to the famous Kew Gardens, at last! This vast collection of botanical beauty is one of the most celebrated in the world. From lily ponds to treetop bridges, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy here at this nature-haven on the outskirts of London!

Getting there: You can actually reach Kew Gardens by underground, tucked away on the end of the District line! Just hop on, and make sure you go towards Richmond. From Kew (the second last stop), the gardens are a mere 10 minute walk at most! You can also take the South West Train from Waterloo station if you’d rather stay above ground (I always prefer it! 🙂 )

Time of Year: These photographs were taken in early-mid May, allowing for absolutely beautiful spring flowers and even a glimpse of the bluebell-scattered forest floor! Oh, and ducklings! You can’t forget ducklings!

Entering The Kew Gardens, you are immediately struck by fields of pink and yellow and purple. These vast beds of flowers overlook the lovely fishpond opposite the glass Palm House!

Beautiful swans glide along the peaceful waters of the pond, and the glistening backs of huge goldfish shimmer through the water surface! (Seriously, they were huge!)

Enter Palm House, the colossal glass house filled with steamy trees and other tropical flora!

Climb to the top of the twisted iron staircases and catch a glimpse of the greenery from above. The view of the massive glass ceiling is pretty spectacular up here, as well!

In early May, the trees are still flowering!

Petals blanketing the grass in purples and pinks! (This was my favourite tree!)

Little buildings hide down twisted pathways. Kids enjoyed sitting between the pillars, playing games.

The gardens are also full of beautiful birds and other creatures. We could hear this peacock belting out his characteristic call all morning. Finally, we found him perched above the water lily pond!

A mama goose and her four goslings hopped around the pond, too!

I was especially excited to track down the patches of bluebell forests. The scattered bunches of bluebells eventually lead us there!

A mighty oak resting on a bed of bluebells! Perfection! (The bluebells only blossom between late April and early May, so if you’re a bluebell-lover, schedule your visit for Spring!)
True beauty! You can't help but feel like you're in a Romantic poem.

Beautiful Camellia Japonica flowering in the gardens. I love the tucked bud about to burst!
This bed of petals was a lovely last sight before heading for a quick trip to the gift shop!
